The Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial) The Marine Corps War Memorial stands as a symbol of this grateful Nation's esteem for the honored dead of the U.S. Marine Corps. While the statue depicts one of the most famous incidents of World War II, the memorial is dedicated to all Marines who have given their lives in the defense of the United States since 1775. The Amphitheater is the home of the Tomb of the Unknowns where Unknown American Servicemembers from World War I, World War II, Korea and Vietnam are interred. National Science Foundation (NSF) An independent agency of the U.S. Government, established to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; and to secure the national defense. 4201 Wilson Boulevard in Ballston. Officially dedicated on May 5, 1960, the fifteenth anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands from the Nazis. The Pentagon – headquarters of the Department of Defense and one of the world's largest office buildings. Between Arlington National Cemetery and Ronald Reagan National Airport. The Tomb of the Unknowns one of Arlington's most popular tourist sites. Located in Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb contains the remains of unknown American soldiers from World Wars I and II and the Korean Conflict.
